I love hurrr
There was a french guy who stayed at jaksa for a while. he spoke english with a beautiful accent. I will never forget his “ but i love hurrr vincent” one day sitting in memory cafe he told me that he thought his girlfriend Ima was stealing from him, but i love hurrr vincent! I wanted to tell him that of course she probably was, she was a hooker and a heroin addict to boot. poor ima was from ambon and like most of the girls(not all) had a good heart. she was also very sexy and had a body to die for! the ambonese are darker than the javanese and many of them look very much like africans. as you head south in the indonesian archipelago the people generally get darker. the papuans(known to many as new guinea) also look as if they must be related to africans. I dont know what ima’s story was but it was probably bad or why was she hooking on jalan jaksa? i was fond of ima and so didn’t say anything to; i’ll call him pierre!! we met a couple of weeks later and he then told me “vincent now i know she is stealing from me, but there is nothing i can do, i love hurrr, she is so exciting, i know i am crazy but i love hurrr! he and ima dissapeared for a while and when he returned he told me an amazing story. by this time he knew that she was a drug addict. he had taken her to bali. it was something many guys did. take their girlfriends to bali…. they had a fight while there and so she bought some pot, grass, marijuana and put it in the hotel room and called the police. the police arrested pierre and ima! he told me it cost him $10,000 US to straighten it out. he made the mistake of hiring a lawer. in indonesia it is always cheaper to just bribe your way out of trouble. in fact a crisp one hundred dollar bill will get you out of just about anything except murder? but he didn’t know that… i asked him what hapenned to ima. “i had to pay one thousand to get her out of jail vincent!!” when i asked him where she was now, he replied ” in our room vincent, i know its crazy but i love hurrr!!!!!!!!!!

yani’s sister and reuben mustafa!
i will not mention her sisters name here unless yani approves… i am not sure she will approve of this site!!! i havnt heard from her since i started this. yesterday i inadvertantly sent a batch of emails and included her address so i guess she knows or soon will!!!!!! (yani has no computer and must go to an internet cafe, and it is not cheap for her) anway, yani’s sister met an american guy at jaksa. i think she was around 19 or 20 at the time. he was in his early twenties. she should have never been hanging around jaksa! but she was not hooking. i guess maybe she was looking for this guy, that is, a husband. i am quite sure she was a virgin when they married. lest i lose your attention, let me tell you the most interesting part of this story. she is of course a muslim, but he, he was a jewish kid from new jersey!!!!! and now he is a muslim kid from new jersey!!!!!!! thats right, he converted to islam for a piece of a…… now you might think that i am being a little cynical here, but really i am not. it’s the only thing that makes sense once you hear THE REST OF THE STORY. now yani’s sister was, i hope still is (havent seen her for 4 years) a major cutie! petite with a pixie haircut and just gorgeous, and i might add a good kid! the wedding was in parung in front of the family home in the complek. a 2 bedroom rented bungalow, maybe seven hundred square feet of concrete. they had rented a tent and chairs for guests. it was relatively expensive for a not so well off javanese family. i dont know who paid for it. it was a sweltering day and the bride and groom spent hours sitting on display dressed to the hilt, she in some traditional stuff. i really cant remember how he was dressed. his family was represented by his sister and brother inlaw. i guess the mother and father just didnt feel it necessary to attend their new muslim sons wedding! jakarta is literally the other side of the world from new jersey, you just can’t go any further without starting home agin!!! sitting in the audience with the grooms brother in law i decided to stick my neck out and make a prophecy!! i really should have kept my mouth shut! like many other times in my life!! but i didnt! i asked him if he could keep something to himself, a secret if you would. i should have known better, as i have long known, just as mark twain did, how to keep a secret. so i said that i would make a wager with him that the marriage would be finished within six months!!! i really cant remember, again, whether or not he took the wager but it seems to me that he didnt, but IF YOU DID wherever you are out there, you owe me a million rupiah… not only didnt it last six months it didnt last six weeks!!!!!!!! and his brother in law did not keep his mouth shut either…. the next time i saw the groom, at the hostel bumi rama tama!!! which was only a few days after the wedding, he was somewhat upset with me for my lack of faith. and he had a point for sure. maybe because of what i said, set in motion events which led to their eventual seperation. the perverbial self fullfilling prophecy…nostradamus step aside. well the new jersey muslim was seen not long afterward with a somewhat more exotic girl in tow. just another day on jalan jaksa but certainly not a great one for yani or her sister)^&&%$%@*^)*^)( and i have always wondered if he ever reconverted or deconverted!!!! can he do that? anyone out there know???? selamat jalan
more about yani
yani was, is a sweetheart! when we had the hostel her kids stayed with her mother in parung a suburb of jakarta. her parents lived in a complek which means subdivision. it wasnt much by our standards but really not so bad. the first time i visited the complek, i stayed overnight and had to be checked out by the complek authorities to see if i was ok. i guess i was cause they let me stay! yani always took a taxi to parung and one day i asked her why she didnt take the train as it was a fraction of the price…. 5000 rupiah as opposed to 50,000! at the time the dollar was valued at around 10,000. she explained to me why she didnt want to take the train..” oh vincent first time i take the train, 14 year old boy fall off roof and killed! it was make me so scared”. usually there were many people on the roof of the train. we could see it from the roof of the hostel! no it didnt look real safe! “other time i take train vincent, ceiling of train came fire and it start in front and come quickly to back where we were and just get out in time” i never asked yani to take the train again!!!!! selamat pagi
YANI
this site is an attempt to first help yani and then other hookers before they DIE! i first met yani in jakarta the day i arrived in the capital of indonesia the worlds largest muslim country, the day the afghan war started. i didnt realize this until one of my daughters pointed it out to me some time later. some of my family thought it was probably not a good time to be going there, but as it turned out i had the time of my life. it was not my first visit to the country. i started a hostel for yani in an attempt to keep her off the street. jalan jaksa to be exact! one of the wildest craziest places on the planet!!!! yani……..she started working after leaving her husband of 13 years, 13 years of severe abuse. at first she tried working a more conventional job in a factory, but in her words “i couldnt afford to work vincent” the pay was 200,000 rupiah per month. sounds like a lot. not! she explained to me that at the end of the month she had to pay for her lunches, everything works on credit in jakarta, and that plus her transportation was somewhat more than her 200,000 rupiah salary. needless to say that wasnt going to pay the bills for her and her three kids , so jalan jaksa came next. the hostel bumi rama tama- in english - the friendly planet hostel. it was amazingly easy to start the business. anyone who has ever tried starting a business from bare walls in the usa or europe will understand this. for anyone who has not, let me just say that the bureaucrats will drive you CRAZY. i think it cost me around $120 US in fees which included $60 in bribes! indonesia is always ranked near the top in lists of most corrupt nations, but it is unfair. in terms of money i believe the usa to be number one. it just isnt in your face as it is in other places. so here i am an american in the capital city of the largest muslim country in the world at the start of the afghan war!!!! we rented (my money of course) a three story house in the middle of what was really a village of small houses surrounded by huge buildings including some skyscrapers. our house was the tallest on the street. it had a rooftop veranda with a spectacular view of the city. on the day that we moved in the local children started exploring the house and this new blanda (their word for gringo all caucasians) they walked right in as if it was their uncles home and the parents had absolutley no problem with this!!!! ask yourself if this is likely to happen in new york or berlin. i dont think so. and thus began almost two years of the hostel bumi rama tama and my relationship with some of the greatest neighbors that i have ever had!!!!!!!!!!! i promised my muslim neighbors that i wasnt going to allow the tourists to bring hookers to our hostel. it wasnt going to be a place LIKE THAT! well as it turned out every time i went on a trip to see other parts of indonesia, when i came back it was full of yanis friends mostly hookers!! mostly not paying!! the girls always helped each other out when business wasnt so good and it was very bad in those early days of the war as almost all the tourists and many expats jumped ship including all NON ESSENTIAL EMBASSY PERSONNEL whatever that means. but after a few months and none of us remaining in the country being blown up or kidnapped , people started returning to jaksa!!! in fact for the people who stayed it was great as prices came down drastically as you can imagine…… well thats it for today, later on i will post very intersesting photos and videos including kids bringing parang ( machetes) to school along with other tools to clean up the school yards on fridays and other amazing videos of the ritual slaughter of water buffalo at christian funerals!!!! selamat pagi vincent
